USCIS APPLICATION AND RECEIPTING UPDATE (11/1/07)

The USCIS has released its weekly Receipting Update.  Nebraska is issuing receipts for EB I-140s and I-485 received on 10/9/07.

A couple of observations: the Texas Service Center has not indicated receipting dates for I-140 or I-485s, and the Update is dated November 1, 2007 and should be today, November 2, 2007.  My guess is that the agency will revise this Update for completeness and accuracy.

A CANADIAN’S VIEW ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IN THE US

According to an article by Diane Francis in the Financial Post, a Canadian publication:  “. . . Lou Dobbs can rant and rave all he wishes against illegal immigration, as can some presidential candidates. Numbers are estimated to be as high as 12 million. But illegal immigration enhances America’s productivity and is as deflationary as China, another pool of cheap, unskilled labor that Americans love to bash too.”

AMENDMENT TO H AND L REGULATION REGARDING INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

Effective today, the DHS has removed the original receipt requirement for certain H and L nonimmigrants returning from a trip outside the United States. This is to avoid penalizing H and L visa holders for being prevented from traveling internationally due to receipting delays.

On a related note, the USCIS should also be issuing its weekly Receipting Update tomorrow.
