USCIS NAME CHECKS PENDING MORE THAN SIX MONTHS ELIMINATED

According to a USCIS Press Release:  “U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that, working in close partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the backlog for FBI name checks pending more than six months has been eliminated.  This is the fourth milestone met by the agency as part of its joint plan with the FBI to completely eliminate the backlog of pending name checks.”

ONE MAN’S IMMIGRATION EXPERIENCE

From time to time I like to post articles about what individuals experience when dealing with this country’s immigration maze.  According to an article on washingtonpost.com:  “On Jan. 26, my office received a call from an immigration agent at Dulles International Airport, who said that my colleague Rashad Bukhari had been refused entry to the United States. He was not charged with anything, the agent said, and would be eligible for a future visa.”

Years ago, I remember a commentator on CNN saying that the discretion given to U.S. Border Patrol Officers is analogous to giving a Meter Maid the right to hand out the dealth penalty.  Fortunately this particular agent was polite – however discouraging a review from a superior prior to sending someone back home after detaining them for 15 hours strikes me as an abuse of power.
