SECOND UNDOCUMENTED BRAZILIAN DIES IN POLICE CUSTODY IN ABOUT A MONTH

According to an article on Boston.com:  “An immigrant from Brazil, stricken with an unknown illness while in State Police custody on Friday, died yesterday at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Essex district attorney’s office reported.”  The article goes on to say:  “The death marks the second time in about a month a Brazilian immigrant from Massachusetts has died in the region while in police custody.”

The facts of yesterday’s incident are still unclear.  However, last month’s incident was particularly worrisome because Irene, the sister of Edimar Araujo, the deceased, claims to have tried unsuccessfully to get police to give him his epilepsy medication.  Police deny the allegations.
